Greater Faithfulness: Respect, Duty, and Honor
1 Timothy 5:1-25

1 Tim. 3:15 . . .I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.”

Encourage as an elder with respect as family in purity.
1 Do not sharply rebuke an older man, but rather appeal to him as a father, to the younger men as brothers, 2 the older women as mothers, and the younger women as sisters, in all purity.

Honor widows who are widows indeed.
3 Honor widows who are widows indeed;. . .16. . . and the church must not be burdened, so that it may assist those who are widows indeed.

“Widows indeed” are to be taken care of by the church. They have no family and many biblical qualifications listed in verses 4-16. Families are to take care of widows in their family.

8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Honor elders who lead well and work hard preaching and teaching.
Respect their work.
17 The elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching. 18 For the Scripture says, “YOU SHALL NOT MUZZLE THE OX WHILE HE IS THRESHING,” and “The laborer is worthy of his wages.”

Protect them from unbiblical accusations.
19 Do not receive an accusation against an elder except on the basis of two or three witnesses.

Correct those who continue in sin.
20 Those who continue in sin, rebuke in the presence of all, so that the rest also will be fearful of sinning.
