I recently got a request for “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas, so I had to take a crack at arranging this one for solo guitar. The intro and main vocal lines are pretty straightforward, but once I starting diving into the violin solo, things started getting more interesting! I’ve always loved how the tasteful layering of the violin melody adds just the perfect amount of complexity to such a simple and elegant song. The tricky part is playing the violin melody while holding the bass note of the chords… this has now ended up becoming one of my favorite practice riffs to strengthen my fretting pinky! Try it a few times, and you’ll see what I mean!
