Adè’s new single “Adu Madan” shows what identity is at the root — represented with culture, history, and analysis. The word “Adu Madan” in English means “the black one that shines” or “keep shinning one who is black-skinned.”
This piece of music helps interpret the multifaceted nature of Blackness that was why it was decided to be released on Black History Month. This song helps to appreciate the beauty in being black and also the hardship it comes with. It also defines what black is in correlation to both the Female and Male gender not just in America but Beyond the walls of the United States
This piece of music infuses an element of African percussion popularly knows as Talking Drum (Gan-Gan) into the contemporary Jazz world with a mix of hip-hop/Rap and RnB/Soul. It is as American as it is African, and everything in between, bringing to life the soul that lives through and across the various diaspora.
Adè having arranged and composed the song would have not been able to accomplish this music without his crew. Tobi Alapo was on drums, Tunde was on Electric Guitar, Tosin Ajirotutu was on Omele and Talking Drum, Taylor Afield was on Saxophone, Shawn Davis was on Bass, Vocals by Ife kolawole and additional Vocals by Todd Reid.
